In today's article we will talk about the subject of flooring! We currently have a wide range of flooring manufacturers on the market, including variants in which the floor will be made. In the apartment, we can have a floor panel, parquet, and a cork floor. Before we decide on specific solutions, it is worth considering not only the budget available and the planned interior design, but above all the functionality. The choice of the floor is greatly influenced by the purpose of the room, the number of people who will usually use it, the presence of four-legged household members, as well as the planned installation of underfloor heating.

Installation of floors requires not only considerable financial expenditure, but also radical changes and removal of all furniture from the rooms. For this reason, it is better to choose a floor in advance, which will not wear out in a few years of normal use, but we will serve even a few decades. Extremely long durability is characterized by wooden floors - classic parquet, floor boards, wooden panels. Surfaces of this type can last up to 100 years! Floor panels made of wood-based materials are less durable. If we decide on a wooden floor, we will have to choose wood grades of different hardness - they should be chosen depending on the room's intended purpose. Class II timber (eg maple or pine) is sufficient for adult bedrooms. A greater degree of hardness of wood will be useful where the floor is more exposed to scratches or dents, and so in the rooms through which a lot of people pass, where children play or stay.

When choosing floor panels, we should be guided by their usability and abrasiveness class. The second parameter worth paying attention to is the panel abrasion class.

Wooden floors are famous for their longevity, but also vulnerable to atmospheric factors. The traditional wooden parquet can easily survive for several dozen years, but due to the natural process of graying, warping of wood and the formation of cracks, it requires regular maintenance, and sometimes also scraping. They are carried out depending on the degree of parquet wear - once every five, but sometimes even twenty or thirty years. More resistant to damage and less demanding in terms of maintenance is the so-called new generation parquet (otherwise referred to as wood panels or finish parquet). Its maintenance does not require so much work, it can also be scraped, but usually less often than the classic parquet - manufacturers determine how many times you can do the scraping. The easiest to clean and the most comfortable to maintain are floor panels. However, in the event of their destruction, we must take into account the need to completely replace the floor. In this respect wooden floors have a decisive advantage, which can be easily renovated both at individual points and on their entire surface.

If you want to avoid cold tiles in the bathroom or kitchen arrangement, you can choose to use parquet from moisture-resistant wood, waterproof panels or a wooden floor with cork. This is a good solution for small apartments where you want to get a consistent interior design and, for example, put the same floor throughout the living room with a kitchenette. In addition, wooden floors and panels are warmer than the traditionally used terracotta, so even walking barefoot, we are not cold. We obtain a waterproof floor by using one of the non-reacting wood species. These include mainly exotic woods. Oak wood can be recommended from domestic products, although unlike wc: merbau, teak, sapella and sage, it requires systematic preservation and impregnation. Similarly, a cork floor to become waterproof must be impregnated. If we care about its appearance more than using natural wood, let's decide on water-resistant waterproof floor panels. This solution will also free us from troublesome maintenance.

Although wood is a flammable material and at first seems unsuitable for connection with a heating system, proper installation, adequate choice of floor type and wood type ensure safety of use and no damage. Designing a floor heating system, as well as the selection of materials and their parameters, it is best to consult a specialist. Here are some tips to keep in mind: in the case of a wooden floor, water-based floor heating (but not electric) can be used to avoid deformation of boards, we choose a wood species characterized by a low coefficient of shrinkage and swelling: oak, merbau, iroko, twisted bamboo it is better to choose multilayer boards with chamfered edges than those made of solid wood do not forget about the appropriate assembly: the floor underlay should be adequately warmed, also divide the floor heating surface into sectors, apply the right dilatation profile and stick the floor to the underlay with an adhesive containing few solvents

Hardwood flooring is one of the most durable and long-lasting types of flooring available, with some grades having the potential to last up to 100 years. Durability depends on the type of wood used, with the most durable being harder, more scratch-resistant grades like maple or pine for adult bedrooms. However, hardwood floors are also vulnerable to the elements, and so regular maintenance should be carried out depending on the level of wear in order to keep the floor looking as good as new. One possible solution is the new generation parquet, which is less prone to wear and tear and requires less maintenance than classic parquet. An alternative to hardwood floors is a hardwood laminate, which is more resistant to wear and tear than a traditional wood floor and also requires less maintenance. Hardwood laminate is also waterproof and thus suitable for wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. If you’re looking for a floor that will withstand moisture, then hardwoods such as oak, merbau, teak, sapella and sage are the best choice. While they require regular impregnation, they will last longer than non-waterproof floors and hold up better in these areas. If the floor has become worn or damaged over time, it is important to assess the damage and decide whether hardwood refinishing, hardwood repair or hardwood installation is the most appropriate solution. Refinishing involves sanding, staining and sealing the surface, whereas repair requires repairing or replacing damaged boards. Floor installation is a more involved process and requires removal of existing furnishings. Depending on the type of flooring, floor repair may be needed before the installation begins. This is especially true for wooden floors and panels, which may require scraping and other maintenance before the new floor is installed. Chilliwack Aldergrove is a great place to find a professional installer who will take the time to properly assess your flooring needs. With their years of expertise and specialized tools, they can find the best solutions for your floor installation or repair needs. For those looking to achieve a more natural and timeless look, hardwood floors and panels provide a good solution. While they require regular maintenance, they are the most long-lasting option and will ensure a beautiful, timeless look that lasts for many years.
